Last fall, Polaris Off Road introduced its most capable adventure crossover UTV to date with the all-new, long travel, 64-inch wide GENERAL XP 1000. It wasn’t too very long ago that the original 60-inch wide General’s release completely muddied the waters between work and play. That first General 1000 combined a true, full size, working dump bed and real world tow capacity with true sport UTV handling, suspension and an impressive 100 horsepower.
Polaris created the mold for this whole new class of crossover Side by Side’s. Vehicle’s that could comfortably haul anything and everything you need to work all week and still put a smile on your face ripping trail’s on your day’s off. Based closely on the Polaris RZR S suspension platform, the 62.5”(158.7 cm) wide General came with 27 inch tires, 31.1 cm of wheel travel, and 30.5 cm of ground clearance.
The President of Polaris Off Road, Chris Musso stated that “as an industry leader, they are relentlessly committed to introducing machines that will exceed customers’ expectations and advance the industry.” The new General XP 1000 and General XP1000 4 are a direct example of this as they took class leading machine and drastically improved them for an elevated rider experience, and unrivaled versatility. The 64 inch wide General XP 1000 has been redesigned and reengineered for outdoor adventure, with a balance between performance, workability, and all day riding comfort.
The General XP1000 is without a doubt the (XtremePerformance) entry into this crossover side by side segment that they created. Polaris’s newest edition General gets 35.6 cm (14”) of front and rear wheel travel with wider, high clearance a-arms and premium Walker Evans Velocity shocks. This new wider suspension platform is more stable and is said to provide greatly increased bottoming resistance and a plusher ride. The new class-leading suspension combines with 30” Pro Armor Crawler tires to create a class-leading 13.5”s of ground clearance. The General XP1000’s extra inch and a half of ground clearance is critical when navigating the toughest terrain while the improved long travel suspension provides a smoother and faster ride.
The General XP’s 3” larger tires not only increase ground clearance but will also provide better rollout for a smoother less active ride than the original General platform. Clutching has been developed and tuned to keep the same 1100 lb payload and 1500 lb towing capacities with the much larger tires. The XP1000 General’s get aggressive looking, redesigned, high coverage fender flares to block any additional mud or debris that the bigger tires might throw toward the driver or passengers in the cab. An aggressive looking, low profile “Sport” bumper hides factory installed Polaris Pro HD 4,500-lb winch and new LED headlights are said to provide brighter long distance vision while drawing less power and capping off the new front end look.
Luxury Experience
The General XP1000’s cabin gets the same bolstered and color matched seats as the previous General, but will all come with top of the line, factory-installed Stage 1 Audio by Rockford Fosgate. The General XP 1000 and XP 1000 4 both get high functioning half doors, a durable sport roof and a convex rearview mirror.
RIDE COMMAND
The General XP 1000 and XP 1000 4 will both also be available with the RIDE COMMAND Factory Choice package delivering what Polaris calls the best infotainment system in off-road. The infamous 7-inch, glove touch display will also come standard with Rockford Fosgates upgraded Stage 4 audio. This is the industry’s first tuned and factory installed 400watt system with four speakers and a subwoofer kit.
This latest version of RIDE COMMAND features built-in GPS that allows for mapping and the Group Ride function to work without available cell signal. Ride Command, Group Ride and follow the leader functions have proven ever so useful and desirable with the only hold up being that it wouldn’t work when riding outside your cell coverage area. This new GPS system can also be installed into the last few model years of Ride Command vehicles.
The new General XP 1000 lineup is available in an all-new Matte Navy Blue and a Glossy Stealth Grey. The General XP 1000’s will be shipping to dealerships later this month.
