WOLVERINE X2 EPS

The highlight of Yamaha’s 2019 UTV lineup is the all-new Wolverine X2,  and it clearly follows suit on last years four-seat Wolverine X4 launch. The Wolverine X2 uses similar design traits looking to lead the way in tight, technical terrain. With an even more compact, and nimble chassis, this could quite possibly be the ultimate two-seat trail exploring vehicle. The new X2 features the same wheelbase as the X4, yet is slightly narrower and quite a bit shorter. It’s also lighter and carries a little more ground clearance.

The all-new X2 brings all the comfort and capability improving features we saw with the X4 into the two seat platform. First and foremost it gets the new, vibration free, 847-cc twin cylinder engine. This is and was a huge improvement over the previous big single that was derived from the age-old Rhino. Power improvements were huge as was the comfort factor with a quieter ride for both driver and passenger.

This ultra-quiet ride quality was a major concern of Yamaha engineers with both last years X4 and the new X2. Wolverine’s counter-balanced engine,  features a isolation and vibration minimizing design with rubber damping and an extremely quiet muffler design to insure occupants can easily converse with each other regardless of RPM range. Wolverine’s drive by wire throttle system offers unmatched smoothness and control, regardless of the conditions.

The new X2 is also more versatile and work-ready than ever with it’s newly designed dump bed that’s rates for 272 kg (600 lbs.) carrying capacity. The X2’s full functioning dump bed features multiple tie down points to secure cargo or attach accessories and a single handed automotive style latch for simple and secure closure. The 272 kg bed carrying capacity is coupled with 907 kg of towing capacity for when you really need to haul some serious weight.

Speaking of ready-to-work, the X2 also features nearly 600 watts electrical output, is pre-wired and switched for accessories, and comes with a factory installed Speed Management System allowing the owner to limit vehicle speed to 40 km/hr for employees etc.

X2 R-SPEC EPS

Every Wolverine model will features EPS for 2019, but you will find a handful of other great upgrades on the R-Spec models. Starting at an extra 1000 bucks, the  R-Spec models will further blur the line between utility comfort and sport performance. The biggest R-Spec feature upgrade is the fully adjustable, piggyback shocks providing plush control and long-lasting durability. These high-quality KYB shocks can be adjusted for spring preload, rebound, and both high & low speed compression damping. You will also find that Yamaha gives you an accessory roof and cast aluminum wheels.

THE 2019 YXZ1000R SS EPS SE

 COOLING

While it’s not a completely new machine like the X2,  new YXZ1000R boasts several game changing enhancements. Aggressive new styling might be the first thing that catches your eye, but the new oversized & re-located radiator is definitely a really big deal. Since the invention of the UTV, racers and hardcore enthusiasts have been relocating the radiators to behind the seat/headrests area. The industry standard, front mount design is extremely prone to clogging up with mud in wet conditions. Relocating the radiator to behind the headrest has proven to be the only hope for survival in tight racing conditions where muddy roost is constantly flying towards the front of the vehicle.

The new 2019 YXZ100R’s rear-mounted radiator is designed to remain clear of mud and debris build up as well as reducing heat in the cabin. The fans and ducting funnel cool air through the radiator regardless of speed or conditions. The YXZ radiator’s size was also increased for increased cooling and coolant capacity than ever before. Relocating a front mounted radiator in the past required jabbing and welding mounts to your chassis, custom plumbing and then you still had to consider ductwork for proper airflow. Yamaha doing it properly right from the factory is really big deal and were more than impressed.

POWERTRAIN

The YXZ1000R is already known for it’s exclusive 5-speed sequential transmission with Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift technology. It combines the of power, durability and efficiency of a manual transmission with an advanced automatic clutch system. Shifting is controlled by steering column mounted sport paddle shifters for rapid and precise gear selection. The 2019 model gets newly optimized gearing thats lowered for the 29 inch tires and features a tighter first gear. The new gearing is ideal for technical riding with sharper torque right off the bottom. The larger 29” tires are ideal for increased ground clearance, and improved rollout but would negatively affect the gearing when added to previous models.

The infamous high revving, three cylinder power plant has been updated with new high strength connecting rods for increased durability. While the original rods proved to be reliable in for the naturally aspirated set-up, installation of aftermarket rods was an expensive yet necessary upgrade if you wanted to turbocharge it. The new stronger bottom end will have no problem holding up to the increased HP and boost pressure of Yamaha’s Factory available GYTR turbocharger kit, saving the prospective consumer 1000’s in parts and labor.

STYLING, STRENGTH & STOPPING

The new YXZ1000R gets a completely updated frame design for increased durability and strength. The new bodywork and styling is sharper than ever with class-leading driver visibility thanks to an aggressively low hood design. Braking has been improved with a 10 mm increase in rotor diameter. Twin-piston calipers now clamp down onto 255 mm rotors on all four corners slowing down the mighty YXZ with zero fade and plenty of confidence.

OVERALL

This new YXZ is ready to do it all, it’s redesign has been focused for ultimate high-performance off-road adventures on any terrain. Open deserts and dunes to muddy trails and rocky-rough terrain, the new aggressive race-ready chassis will deliver from coast to coast with comfort and confidence. Available at Yamaha dealers this Fall.
