I don’t consider myself an environmental zealot. After all, I’m an ATV rider so that automatically puts me in the knuckle-dragging-Neanderthal category, right? I don’t eat sprouts or wear anything with the word “hemp” on it. Nor do I blindly believe in the ‘sky-is-falling’ doom that some people are predicting, but I do care about the environment despite being an ATV rider!
I think we all have a social responsibility to treat our planet with respect, and leave a positive legacy for our kids and grand kids into the future. I truly believe that powersports have a sustainable place in our world, and can co-exist with all other forms of outdoor recreation without destroying the planet. Proof of this is the achievements that the industry has made in the recent past. EPA regulations have been tightened, the drinking and riding message is getting out, and the safety factor on our trails has been improved. All this with the best sleds ever available coming out of the manufacturer’s doors, and now we have another reason to celebrate; G-Oil.
What’s G-Oil you ask? Let me tell you! G-oil has been developed by Green Earth Technologies as a substitute for traditional forms of oil by using cows as a resource instead of fossils! Yep, you read that correctly… Now both you and your sled can be meat-eaters. Don’t worry; there are no T-bones in the bottle (those are for you). What’s in the bottle is what’s left of the cow after all the good stuff has been taken out for our dinner plates. It’s the saturated fats and other leftovers that go into the formulation of G-Oil. Stuff that doesn’t go back into the animal or human food-chain. The only food-source threatened here would be hot-dogs, and we all know what hot dogs are made of, don’t we? What happens next is G-Oil takes this mountain of waste product and processes a full line of oils that we can use in our cars, trucks, and toys. They even produce a line of cleaning products from left-over beets and other plant material. Actually, I don’t like beets so I’m giving my personal okay to G-Oil to use the whole plant. Come to think of it, go ahead and use Brussels sprouts too! The great thing about all this is that G-Oil is a natural product that’s sustainable, biodegradable (95% in 9 days), and breaks our dependence on crude oil. Did I mention the process uses domestic waste products? Another bonus! The first targeted snowmobile and ATV product to come out of Green Earth Technologies will come with a TC-W3 rating. Traditionally, TC-W3 would be considered a mineral oil, good for use in liquid cooled 2-stroke engines. Synthetics have really taken over in the past few years and are required by many of today’s manufacturers for use in their modern high-tech 2-strokes. However, G-Oil is producing their 2-cycle oil to meet strict JASO-FD and API-TC requirements, making their product equivalent to other synthetics on the market with pour points down a low as -43 degrees, and therefore safe to use in modern ATV’s and snowmobiles.
In fact, all the oil produced by Green Earth Technologies is that of a synthetic equivalent. The “synthetic” label can only be applied to crude oil based products, and because G-Oil is bio-based (produced by the rendering process of domestic cows) the term “synthetic” doesn’t apply. Instead, Green Earth Technologies uses the synthetic class of crude oil based products as their benchmark, engineering their G-Oil products to as good as, or better than what’s currently offered, all backed up by industry testing standards.
G-Oil will be available through places like Royal Distributing, along with select big-box stores and dealerships as the product line grows. With no compromise in quality there is no reason why we ATV riders have to sacrifice in order to be green- friendly. Using G-Oil is just the eco-logical thing to do. Using G-Oil is so good for the environment, trees will start hugging us! |
