Promising To Out Work The Competition, BRP Brings An All-New 6
Wheeled Defender With Massive Payloads, Traction, and Clearance.

A brand new vehicle for 2020, the Defender 6×6 DPS HD10 is designed to conquer the most challenging tasks and gnarliest terrain, with previously un-heard of payload capabilities.  The 6X6 gets all the new model year updates to styling, performance and chassis as the rest of Defender lineup, combined with incredible 6 wheel traction and a massive multi-function cargo box. A true go -anywhere workhorse that can carry an unbelievable 1000-lbs(453.6kg) in the bed only to be outdone by its class leading 3,000-lb(1361kg) towing capacity.

TRUE OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY

The thing that really sets the Defender 6×6 apart from anything in its class, is that its in a class of its own. There are other UTV’s with extremely large payload capabilities and there are plenty of UTV’s that are extremely capable in extreme off-road conditions, but they don’t typically excel at both. In most cases a heavy payload is achieved with overly stiff suspension and minimal wheel travel, this is not at all what BRP was looking for with the Defender. Quiet, comfortable and dependable like its previous bloodline, with versatile functionality and what they call adaptable sure-footedness thats offered from its Double Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTA) rear suspension and two extra rear wheels.

The new Defender 6×6’s suspension system has been designed for both utility and recreational usage with a full ten inches of travel at both rear axles. The Arched Torsional Trailing A-Arm design provides additional ground clearance out near the wheels, and zero camber change for optimal comfort and drivability in any condition. The Defender’s TTA suspension features more pivot points (bushings) than the competition, and they’re also larger and grazeable on both ends. This more durable setup also features wear plates to prevent friction between the chassis and suspension creating a more controlled wheel movement and increases longevity. A removable external sway bar puts power to the ground, improves traction and limits body roll.

The Defender 6×6’s 10 inches of travel, and maximum ground clearance TTA rear suspension is complemented with their proven Arched double A-arm front suspension with 11 inches (27.9 cm) of travel and smooth, predictable handling. This system combined with twin tube gas charged shocks provides a comfortable ride in the most difficult terrain, even when loaded down with heavy cargo.

In further search of combining un-matched traction and load capabilities with comfort and trail capability, the Defender 6×6 comes stock with traction grabbing 27” Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires. The durable, yet very lightweight 2.0 Bighorns have earned a reputation as one of the best handling tires on a variety of terrain. The six 2.0 Bighorn’s come standard on lightweight, yet durable cast-aluminum wheels with a black painted finish. Combined with the Defender’s arched suspension and chassis design, the 27” tires create an impressive 13 inches of ground clearance for unbelievable off-road capability.

UN-MATCHED WORK-ABILITY

The entire 2020 HD10 Defender line-up gets the newly revised and significantly more powerful 82hp Rotax engine with an industry-leading 69 ft-lb of torque. This revised power-plant produces peak torque at lower RPM for optimal delivery while helping to achieve it’s class-leading 3000 lb. towing capacity. This impressive torque output is also a key factor in the 6×6’s incredible 453 kg (1000 lb.) cargo bed capacity. Alongside this significant  power increase, the 2020 Defenders also get a thicker firewall for reduced heat and sound in the cab.

The Defender’s PRO-TORQ transmission is calibrated to make optimal use of the Defender’s available power with a Quick Response System to enhance low-speed operation, and deliver smoother and more responsive power delivery with precise engagement. The Defender also comes with a work specific “extra low” gear for optimal torque delivery under heavy loads. Clutch ventilation has also been optimized for lower speeds to improve belt durability. The Defenders Electronic Belt Protection monitors the CVT belt slip reminds the driver when to be in low gear. Integrated hill descent control provides smooth, predictable deceleration.

The 1000 pound capacity in itself is pretty impressive, but then you gotta ask yourself how would you even put a 1000 pounds of anything in a UTV bed. This is where they’ve gone and done it again. The Defender 6X6 features a huge multifunction cargo box, in fact at 180.3 cm x 138.4 cm it’s actually twice as long as the regular defender bed. The hauling possibilities are endless with this super intuitive bed, as it features easily removable side panels transforming into a flatbed in seconds. The 6×6’s massive bed features shock assisted manual dumping and BRP even offers an electric assist kit for effortless unloading at the touch of a button. Dozens of LinQ accessories like gun mounts, bed racks, and spare tire mounts are already available for the 6X6’s super long bed.

The 6 foot dump bed is by far the largest in the industry, but the storage options don’t stop there. Can-Am engineers also built in an impressive 63.9L of onboard storage with stowage locations under the dash, in a removable toolbox and in a removable waterproof box beneath the passenger seat. With just under 64 liters of storage you can truly equip your defender for anything and everything you might discover along the trail.

Every 2020 Defender vehicle including the 6×6 gets a revised Dual-Phase steel chassis for a 30% increase in rigidity. The new frame features an integrated steel bumper and bumper plates with automotive-like technology and improved fabrication tolerances. The integrated front bumper appears small but designed to offer optimal protection. A full length HMWPE (High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) or “super dense and durable plastic” skid plate protects the bottom of this new chassis from anything you might find along the trail.

ATV WORLD THOUGHTS

The new Defender 6×6 is going to open all sorts of doors for projects to be accomplished with a UTV. Whether work, adventure, or even play, these previously unheard of carrying capacities combined with true off-road capable traction and clearance should create a whole new class of UTV and we can’t wait to check one out in person.
